Develop your career by taking APMP Foundation Level Certification training from Lohfeld Consulting Group and becoming certified.

APMP offers the only professional certification program for those working in a bid and proposal environment.

Held the day before the 2019 APMP-NCA Mid-Atlantic Proposal Conference and Expo, this course trains students for the refreshed Foundation exam based on the APMP Body of Knowledge (BoK). The competencies are classified into five groups: sales orientation, information research and management, planning development, and management. The course explains best practices for implementing the competencies and provides constructive exercises and practice test questions.

Exam content:

The exam is a 1-hour multiple choice, pass-fail, open book exam with 75 questions.

Seminar schedule:

Time Content Details
7:30–8:00 am Registration Students sign in and ask questions.
8:00–8:15 am Introductions and background We start the class promptly at 8:00 am.
8:15–10:00 am Exam preparation From 8:15 am to 9:00 am, the instructor reviews the Sales Orientation and Research and Information and Research Management Key Process Areas (KPIs).

From 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, we cover the Planning and Development KPIs, which includes a short break from 10:00 am to 10:15 am.

As a part of the Planning KPIs, we cover schedule development and knowledge management, and students complete the Planning KPIs by participating in an interactive exercise in scheduling. The exercise reviews scheduling best practices and introduces review and production concepts.

Next, we review the Development KPI including opportunity qualification, winning price development, teaming partner identification, proposal strategy development, executive summary development, content plan development, requirements identification, compliance checklist development, persuasive writing, and graphics.

10:00–10:15 am Break
Exam preparation
12:00–1:00 pm Lunch We break for lunch.
1:00–3:00 pm Exam preparation and review After lunch, we review the Management KPI, which includes proposal review management, kickoff meeting management, proposal development risk management, production management, lessons learned analysis, proposal process management, and virtual team management.

After the instruction, students take a brief 15-question test to prepare for the exam.

Next, we review how to take the exam and help students complete their candidate forms.

3:00–4:00 pm Exam The instructor advises students when 30 minutes, 45 minutes, and 55 minutes have elapsed and calls for pens downs at the end of the hour. Students then take their exam to the instructor and wait outside the training room for their results.
4:00–4:30 pm Grading
4:30–5:00 pm Results The instructor calls students into the training room individually to notify them of their grade.

All exams are graded, and students receive their pass/fail results generally within 30 minutes following the end of the exam period.

Lisa Pafe teaches our Proposal Review seminar, Proposal Writing class, Strength-based Winning class, GWAC/IDIQ class, and APMP Foundation Certification class. She brings 25 years’ experience in management consulting, marketing, business development, project management, and proposal management. Her experience also encompasses project management, business process improvement, and organizational change management. She is a Project Management Institute (PMI) certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and an APMP Fellow with Professional-level certification (CPP APMP). She is a trained Internal Auditor for ISO 9001:2008. She holds a Masters of Information Systems from The George Washington University School of Business and a Masters of Public Policy from Harvard University. Lisa has managed hundreds of winning government proposals and brings extensive experience in all aspects of business capture and proposal operations.

Lisa was the 2016/2017 APMP National Capital Area (NCA) Chapter President and previously served as Vice President and Chair of NCA’s Speaker Series Planning Committee.

Class Fee:

$645.00 for APMP members and non-members; $225.00 for those using a corporate exam credit.

Class fee includes instruction, exam, and lunch. Students must purchase the APMP Foundation Study Guide (Body of Knowledge Edition) separately, here. APMP members can also access the Study Guide online for free here.
