AppMaven’s Favorite iPad Apps – TripIt Travel Organizer and Packing Pro
Preparing for the 22nd APMP Intl. Conference in Denver, CO, May 31-June 3, 2011 (and vacation!)
In preparation for the 22nd APMP International Conference in Denver, CO (May 31-June 3, 2011), I’ve added a couple of terrific travel apps to my iPad—TripIt Travel Organizer for iPad by TripIt (free app vs. the Pro subscription) and Packing Pro by Quinn Genzel ($2.99).
After setting up my user account, TripIt let me forward my Expedia airline confirmations and Sheraton hotel confirmation emails to my account at plans@tripit.com. TripIt then consolidated all my conference arrangements into one “trip” so I can now see every detail in one place, versus juggling multiple emails. I was also able to subscribe to a calendar feed that loaded all the details onto my MS Outlook calendar. After setting up my business trip, I quickly created a “trip” for our family summer vacation with multiple train, airline, and hotel details.
Packing Pro lets me create lists based on the number of adults (males and females), children, days, destination, weather, food preparation (I DON’T THINK SO!), and clothes washing preferences (unavoidable on family trips, unfortunately!). It comes with pre-configured lists and a master catalog to which I added my own items—including all the items needed for our exhibit booth and my conference presentation (Leverage AppMaven’s Secret Ammunition: PC Tools and iPad Apps, Friday, June 3, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. (Track 5)). I especially like the “pre-trip to-do” list that reminds me to set my out-of-office notifications as well as other office- and home-related tasks. There’s even a “post-trip to-do” list that reminds me to reset my phone message and email auto responder, submit my travel report, and “catch up on office news”! I can email the packing/to-do list to myself to check off “manually” as I complete items, or I can use my iPad and simply check off each item as I pack/complete it.
